Homochromie
Homochromie is my graduation film, made on my own during my two-year Master's program at ISCID, between 2021 and 2023, with a 6-month production period between January and June 2023.
Homochromie tells the story of a chameleon, moving through a funfair, who ventures into an ice palace only to emerge changed. The film tackles issues of social malaise, the body and, more generally, identity.
The first difficulty was to decide on the chara-design of my main character. I opted for an anthropomorphic chameleon, one of the only color characters in the film, to emphasize his difference.
He is animated frame by frame, at 12 frames per second, unlike the rest of the film, which is animated at 24 frames per second using After Effects.
The humans in the film are paper-cut imitations to show their intelligence and the fact that they think (thanks to the texts of the writings used).
Everything in the film is done to show the chameleon's difference, and therefore his desire to resemble others.
The other character in the film is the mirror's chimera. A mysterious creature, it bridges the gap between humans and the chameleon: in color, animated at 12 frames per second, but using After Effects, paper cut-outs and more. It's another facet of the monster, and therefore of identity.
Homochromie has already taken part in several festivals, including Carrefour du Cinéma d'Animation and Court'Echelle, and continues to be entered in numerous festivals. You can watch it in full below:
